Our 'quick read' news summary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has published his income for the first time in an effort to promote transparency and tackle corruption. According to the declaration on the presidential website, Zelenskyy’s family income fell almost threefold between 2021 and 2022, from 10.8 million Ukrainian hryvnias ($286,168) to 3.7 million hryvnias. The decrease was attributed to the “temporary termination of lease agreements” following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy has urged all public officials to disclose their incomes, and Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention has reopened a register for public scrutiny. The Security Service of Ukraine recently uncovered a $40 million arms procurement corruption scheme.
