Nearly half of people under 40 would like to retire before they are 60, despite rising life expectancy and retirement ages, according to a report by the World Economic Forum. The report suggests that such early retirement is unrealistic and could exacerbate a gap in savings and target retirement income, as well as lowering labour participation rates. The report also found that 55% of those polled said they did not have enough money saved to retire or weren’t sure, whilst 37% of those under 40 have not thought about how much money they will need once they stop working.
