Huizhen High School in Ningbo, China has won the World Building of the Year award at the World Architecture Festival. The school was designed to blur the distinction between inside and outside, with treehouse-like rooms and corridors connecting various open-air spaces. The design aims to create a more welcoming and refreshing environment for students in a country with societal pressures for educational attainment. The school beat out other notable buildings, including Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A and Australia’s Holocaust Museum, to win the top distinction. The focus of the design was to bring the power of nature into the building and provide spaces for students to release stress and discover beauty outside the classroom.
