Spain became the first European team to win the tournament since Germany in 2007. Despite their efforts, England’s Lionesses were unable to score against the aggressive Spanish team. Carmona, the captain, has scored 18 goals in this World Cup and became the seventh player in tournament history to score in both the semifinals and the final. Sweden won the bronze by beating Australia.
