A darts player named Owen Bates will have to change his nickname, ‘The Master’, after qualifying for the World Darts Championship. The 20-year-old player finished second on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit and earned a spot in the tournament. Bates asked for suggestions for a new nickname after his darts manufacturing sponsor called him ‘Too Hot for TV’. Fans have pleaded with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) to let him keep his nickname, but it seems likely that he will have to change it. The World Darts Championship will take place in December at London’s Alexandra Palace.
