A 4.6-magnitude earthquake hit the Southern California coast near Malibu. The earthquake was widely felt in the Los Angeles region but there were no reports of major damage or injuries. The quake occurred at a depth of about 8 miles and the epicenter was in the Santa Monica Mountains. It was felt from Malibu to Orange County and downtown Los Angeles. Seismologist Lucy Jones stated that the quake was not severe enough to cause significant damage. No tsunami was triggered. This earthquake was unrelated to the 5.7-magnitude quake in Hawaii.
