Women are twice as likely to die within 30 days of a heart attack as men, according to research presented at the Heart Failure 2023 conference. A total of 11.8% of women die within 30 days of a heart attack, compared to 4.6% of men, while nearly a third of women die within five years of such an attack, compared to 19.8% of men. Researchers at the Hospital Garcia de Orta in Portugal, which carried out the study, said they were unsure why women were more vulnerable, but recommended regular monitoring, healthier living and tackling rising smoking rates in young women.
