California’s three-year drought has been fully cured, with the exception of certain areas. Winter and spring rains and snowfall set records in the mountains, replenishing underground aquifers and lakes. The state did not experience record-high temperatures during the summer, and Tropical Storm Hilary provided additional rainfall. Los Angeles was able to capture 10,000 acre-feet of water from the storm, enough to provide a year’s worth of water to 40,000 households. The added moisture could also help delay or prevent wildfires during the peak fire season in September.
