A humpback whale, last seen in the early 1990s, was found alive but died shortly after washing ashore on Sable Island National Park Reserve in Canada. The Marine Animal Response Society reported the incident on Nov. 2 and stated that due to dangerous surf conditions, there was little that could be done to help the whale. The whale’s cause of death is unknown, but researchers were able to confirm its identity through photographs of its tail. The whale was first spotted in 1982 off the Dominican Republic and was at least 43 years old.
