Eleven people were injured when a walkway collapsed at Doubling Point Lighthouse in Maine during the annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day event. Five of the injured were taken to hospitals. The collapse occurred at low tide, causing some victims to fall eight to ten feet onto a rocky mudflat below. The lighthouse, which has stood since the late 19th century, is located on the Kennebec River and is currently closed to visitors. The Friends of Doubling Point Light group plans to repair the lighthouse, but no timeframe has been given.
