Balanced News: Vietnamese prisoner of conscience accuses jailers of giving him contaminated water

Nguyen Van Duc Do, a political prisoner serving an 11-year sentence in Vietnam’s Dong Nai province, has accused prison staff of contaminating the drinking water at the Xuan Loc Z30A Prison. Do fell ill with abdominal pain and diarrhea after drinking water purchased at the prison canteen. He suspected guards tried to poison him and his cellmate. Political prisoners’ health and well-being has been a long-standing concern of human rights groups and inmates’ families. Do was arrested in November 2016 along with four other members of the Coalition for National Self-Determination of the Vietnamese People.
