Our 'quick read' news summary

Truong Van Dung, a Vietnamese prisoner of conscience, has been disciplined for “insulting officers’ dignity” after an argument over a human rights prize. Dung’s family sent him a gift box containing a photo of him receiving the 2023 Le Dinh Luong Human Rights Award, but the guards refused to give it to him. As a result, Dung argued with the guards and was punished. He has been denied visits, gifts, phone calls, and other privileges for a month, and will only be able to see his relatives once every two months thereafter. Dung is serving a six-year sentence for “propaganda against the State.”
