US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi are meeting in Bangkok to deepen their dialogue, despite differences on Taiwan. This is the first high-level talk between the two nations since President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in November. Wang will state China’s position on China-US relations, including Taiwan, and discuss international and regional issues. Sullivan also met with Thailand’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to discuss ties, including the crisis in Myanmar. Thailand, a major non-NATO ally of the US, reaffirmed its non-interference approach. The meeting highlights Thailand’s role as a middleman between the superpowers.
