Federal prosecutors have charged a Chinese-American engineer with stealing trade secret technologies related to missile tracking from a Los Angeles-area company. The engineer, Chenguang Gong, is accused of stealing digital files containing blueprints for infrared sensors used to detect nuclear missile launches and track ballistic and hypersonic missiles. The Department of Justice stated that such technology would be “dangerous to U.S. national security if obtained by international actors.” Gong, who became an American citizen in 2011, had previously sought to provide information to the Chinese military through talent programs run by the Chinese government.
