Hundreds of people have gathered in support of transgender rights in Christchurch today, following the controversial appearance of anti-trans campaigner Posie Parker at an event in Auckland yesterday. Many of the demonstrators held signs and banners in support of transgender rights, while a group of counter protestors from the Destiny Church group ‘Man Up’ were also present. Police and rally organisers were able to keep both groups separated, with a speaker from Man Up shouted down when he attempted to speak.
