Blind people have developed the ability to process speech at superhuman speeds, according to a study by neuroscientists at the University of Tübingen. The researchers found that blind individuals can comprehend speech at four times the average speed, with their brains using the visual parts that are normally used for processing vision to instead process sound. This ability, which is a result of the brain rewiring itself, allows blind people to listen to text-to-speech technology at speeds of up to 900 words per minute.
