Preview: Golden Easter Egg semi-finals at Wentworth Park

Summary

Race 1AD: Tim, Golden Easter Egg semi-final night with some fabulous racing in front of us. The first is the calm before the storm where I’ve landed with BIG TOWN ROMEO (3) to get the better of LADY LUCK ETHICS (1). At good odds PENNY HAWKE (2) can figure in the money too. Pretty quiet one to start the night, Tim. TIPS: 3,1,2,7TN: Sure is Adam. Could be a big night for trainer David Smith if my tips are anything to go by. LADY LUCK ETHICS (1) has landed in a very winnable race first-up in town. She makes her own luck on speed and they’ll have to run her down. BIG TOWN ROMEO (3) was a solid Gosford winner early last month and has genuine winning claims with a repeat performance. PENNY HAWKE (2) will be strong late when it matters.TIPS: 1,3,2,8Race 2AD: I’ve gone for some value in the second with DYLAN’S MAGIC (3). Better known over longer, he’s suited by the small field and just could be finishing over the top of these. Kennelmates ESTHER’S THRILL (1) and FASCINATE MEL (2) are drawn to be on the pace from the outset while the revitalised KEY BOB (8) is the other in the mix. Tim, ESTHER’S THRILL (1) has had 10 Wenty starts for five placings. Is tonight the night?TIPS: 3,1,2,8TN: Yeah I think it might be Adam. ESTHER’S THRILL (1) has got the gun drawn under the kennelmate and she’ll find this easier than most of her recent runs in town. Only needs a safe start to go close. FASCINATE MEL (2) will punch for the front and sure to give a big sight if she gets an uncontested lead. BLACK FLIPPER (6) could easily figure on best form and goes around at a mammoth price while I agree with DYLAN’S MAGIC (3) that he’ll be screaming home late and is a definite knockout hope.TIPS: 1,2,6,3Race 3:AD: For me this is the highlight of the night, ZIPPING KANSAS (6) in his Association Cup heat. Draws the six but the vacant box to his inside is a plus and expect him to just explode to the top and who knows, maybe give the record a nudge. Last year’s series winner STANLEY ROAD (2) got back to a bit of form at Nowra on Monday and expect he’s charging home late while Victorian star, MEPUNGA RUBY (4), a group 2 winner at Wenty in January, has obvious claims as well. But it’s all Kansas for me … could well be witnessing greatness in the making.TIPS: 6,2,4,7TN: We could well be Adam, ZIPPING KANSAS (6) is something special. In my eyes, the most exciting stayer we’ve had in NSW for a couple of decades. What he’s done since rising up to middle and staying distances has been absolutely astonishing. Suited boxed wider-out where he can work over and take control before unleashing an amazing turn of foot. MEPUNGA RUBY (4) is a ripper and the only threat. Loves Wenty and racing in super fashion. The jury is still out on how STANLEY ROAD (2) is going but he’s a must for those playing the exotics.TIPS: 6,4,2,1Race 4AD: Might surprise you Tim as I’m a big SUPER ESTRELLA (6) fan but I’m going with HANK THE HUSTLER (8) to cause the mini upset. Like him drawn wide and each of his three previous Sydney runs have been great. No doubt Super Estrella is the one to beat while group 1 winning Victorian GYPSY WYONG (4) is the other major player at her Weny debut. How’d you see this one?TIPS: 8,6,4,1TN: Well I see that I’m not jumping ship Adam! I’m with SUPER ESTRELLA (6) – been a massive fan of hers from the get-go and happy to stick solid, particularly in the form she’s in. Rises back up to the ‘700’ and ready for it after some dazzling front-running exhibitions over the middle journey in recent weeks. HANK THE HUSTLER (8) should roll across with her in the early stages and he’s run some ripping races in Sydney. Just thought he disappointed in Perth last start but can bounce back. GYPSY WYONG (4) is the only other possible hope but a quick look at the betting market will tell you that.TIPS: 6,8,4,2Race 5AD: First of the Egg semi-finals and what a race it is. Sparks will be flying early and I’ve landed on Aussie Cup winner LALA KIWI (4) to score. Expect she takes plenty out of last week’s heat third and qualifies for another group 1 final. IDOLIZE (3) was awesome winning her heat last week and is drawn to land on the speed while I can see another Victorian, ZIPPY TESLA (5) thundering home late here with any breaks early. Don’t let him under your guard. Victorian’s to dominate for me Tim. TIPS: 4,5,3,1TN: Agree the Southerners hold the upper hand here, same numbers but a different order Adam. IDOLIZE (3) to maintain her unbeaten record in Sydney – outstanding performance leading most of-the-way last week and can see her assuming control early before running rivals into the ground. ZARA’S IVAN (1) was a bit disappointing in his heat but he’s better than that. Draws perfectly in the red and can run the times required to qualify for the big one. LALA KIWI (4) will take a stack of benefit out of her debut run at Wenty but draws awkwardly. Class takes her a long way.TIPS: 3,1,4,5Race 6AD: Given LOUIS RUMBLE (2) was a little underdone going into last week’s heat win I can’t stray away this week. Made him my series pick and happy to stick solid. Gives you everything each start and has the sensational early burn. GOOD ODDS CASH (8) ran a bottler behind She’s A Pearl last week and wide draws pose no issues for her and I’m prepared to forgive ZIPPING KYRGIOS (7) for his below par heat run last week. Put a line through him at your peril!TIPS: 2,8,7,1TN: Very similar again Adam but I’ve got GOOD ODDS CASH (8) on top. She was superb when runner-up behind the series favourite (She’s A Pearl) last week. Strips fitter for her first run over ‘500’ for about 10 weeks and draws nicely wide-out where she’ll be able to build up the revs and charge across. LOUIS RUMBLE (2) is airborne! His box manners and genuine speed put him in the mix in any race he contests. He’s the one to beat. We all know what ZIPPING KYRGIOS (7) is capable of but concerned where he’s going to land in the early stages. Loath to risk him but he’ll need plenty of luck.TIPS: 8,2,7,5Race 7AD: Can see FANTASTIC RAVEN (1) getting a fantastic (sorry, had to say it) run in this semi with the aid of the red. There’s a sense of timing about this little girl which is racing at the top of her game. She gets the nod for me. WOW (2) looks to qualify for another Egg finale and I thought his heat run was a cracker after having to do a load of work to get himself into the race. EQUALIZER (6) is a star and proven group 1 winner but box six will make life tough for him. Reckon CHASE ME HONEY (4) is a huge chance as well.TIPS: 1,2,6,4 TN: FANTASTIC RAVEN (1) is the best boxed runner all evening for mine. Loves drawing the inside plus has wide runners in boxes 2 and 4 so will get an airport to drive up the rail and lead or hold a striking spot through the first corner. She’s my best on the card. Would love to see WOW (2) make another big race final. Maybe not right at his peak but still going enormous and he’ll be fitter for last week’s run being his first for 21 days. Huge danger. Best roughie at $20+ is MITCHELL STREET (7) – can fire to the front and run a cheeky race if there is a little bit of jostling behind. TIPS: 1,2,7,6Race 8AD: SHE’S A PEARL’S (2) priced as if she’s already in next week’s final. Drawn ideally in the quietest semi-final so it looks near a formality for the pre-series favourite. Dangers? Kennelmate COAST MODEL (8) and INDY MATILDA (5) are two that can cause some headaches with a clean beginning. TIES THAT BIND (3) can show great burn also and she’s drawn to the fav’s direct outside. Looks fairly straightforward this one, Tim. TIPS: 2,5,8,3TN: We’ve landed on the same numbers again Adam. Impossible to tip against SHE’S A PEARL (2). Outstanding overall record at Wenty and she’s won 11 of her past 12 starts in awesome style. She’s right in the zone for this series and should progress through to the decider with consummate ease. INDY MATILDA (5) was solid when placed in her heat last week and has the early speed to get into second spot behind the favourite and qualify. TIES THAT BIND (3) has the ability to figure and could track the favourite through at the first corner. COAST MODEL (8) goes into all of the multiples.TIPS: 2,5,3,8Race 9AD: Back to some reality here, Tim. I’m going with JEN’S JET (2) which is yet to win in town in 16 attempts. Yep, 16. If there’s a race in her it’s this. Surely. CRUISE OR LOSE (1) has some handy placings in the city and gets the benefit of the red and if CALAMITY ETHICS (4) could reproduce her provincial form in town she’d be in the hunt as well. There’ll be no records broken here, Tim.TIPS: 2,1,4,7TN: Really struggled with this race Adam. Landed on CALAMITY ETHICS (4) in the end. Dreadful record in the city but she’s faced much tougher opposition in the majority of those races. As you’ve alluded to, her provincial form is strong and I’ve mapped her leading here. ELECTRIC DREAMS (6) has the early speed to push forward and contest for the front. Sound run here last start and lobs into a weaker race here. JEN’S JET (2) comes into contention from the soft draw but hard to ignore that horrendous record at Wenty.TIPS: 4,6,2,1Race 10AD: Wide open betting race the last so hoping punters are well in front coming into this. I expect MIREPOIX (6) to lead and that might be enough to land the prize. SHINYA (3) is an ex-Queenslander which has run 25.17 at Ipswich, a time that suggests there’s enough talent to win this. Throwing STRIKING (4) in as well but Tim, god help us if we need the last to get out.TIPS: 6,3,4,8TN: I’m hearing you Adam, very tricky race to close it out. Agree MIREPOIX (6) is the likely leader and probably won’t get a better chance to win a city-class race. Reckon he might be able to just sneak home but hold your breath in the final 50m. STRIKING (4) steps back up in trip which suits. Lacks early speed but will be closing off hard late so must be strongly considered. SHINYA was a solid Bathurst winner 3 starts ago and will be competitive on that performance. TIPS: 6,4,3,8
