Our 'quick read' news summary

Senegal has repatriated 40 survivors from Cape Verde who were attempting to reach Europe by crossing the Atlantic. The crossing resulted in the deaths of approximately 60 migrants. The survivors, mostly young men, were rescued last week aboard a canoe. They were part of a group of 100 Senegalese and one Bissau-Guinean who embarked on July 10. The boat was spotted on August 14, with 38 survivors and seven bodies recovered. The bodies will be buried in Cape Verde. Thousands of Africans attempt this dangerous journey each year in search of a better life in Europe.
