Scientists from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) have successfully engineered E. coli bacteria to generate electricity using a technique called extracellular electron transfer (EET). This breakthrough resulted in a three-fold increase in electrical current generation compared to traditional methods.
