Balanced News: Red Maple Trees Line English Road to Honor 418 Canadian Soldiers Who Died Defending Freedom Overseas

The A3 highway in Hampshire, England is lined with 418 red maple trees, planted as a commemoration to Canadian soldiers who died in the two World Wars. The trees represent the lives of Canadian servicemen who trained and were stationed at Bramshott, near Liphook. Each tree is twinned with a soldier’s grave, with those who died in World War I buried in Bramshott Churchyard and St Joseph’s Catholic Church, and World War II soldiers laid to rest at Brookwood Military Cemetery. The maple trees were imported from Canada to replace sycamores that posed a road hazard.
