Water For Development, a Burundian NGO, produces chlorine locally to make access to clean drinking water available to all in the region. Chlorine dispensers are installed near water sources and schools to make this dream a reality. With over 30 dispensers installed, more than 50,000 people have benefitted from the project so far. Burundi’s Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies reported that a quarter of children under the age of five suffer from illnesses related to dirty water, and diarrhoeal diseases are responsible for a third of their deaths. With chlorine dispensers installed near water sources and schools, more people in Burundi will have access to clean drinking water.
