The pressures on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to call for an inquiry into foreign political meddling are mounting, with many democrats and former senior national security officials calling for some form of public inquiry. Gerald Butts, Trudeau’s former principal secretary, has said that there are a number of ways the government could commission a non-partisan investigation, including a public inquiry, Royal commission or a commission of inquiry. However, Trudeau has so far refused to call for an inquiry, citing concerns about damaging the Canadian electoral process.
