Cree actor Lorne Cardinal, known for his efforts to change how Indigenous people are portrayed, wants to expand his repertoire to play non-Indigenous characters in film and TV. Cardinal, who grew up on the Sucker Creek First Nation in Alberta, is executive producer and director of an upcoming crime noir thriller. He is also involved in the animated feature Four Souls of Coyote, which tells the story of Native American teens confronting an oil pipeline project. The film has already won awards and was named Hungary’s official entry for the 2024 Academy Awards. Cardinal believes humor is a powerful teaching tool.
