Namibian President Hage Geingob has died at the age of 82 while receiving medical treatment for cancer at a local hospital. Geingob, who had been in office since 2015, was set to finish his second and final term this year. The country’s acting president has called for calm and an urgent cabinet meeting. According to Namibia’s constitution, an election to choose a new president must take place within 90 days. Geingob was known for his efforts to advance Africa’s agenda and maintain close relations with both the US and China.
