Millions of Australians will see an increase in their welfare payments starting tomorrow. Couples on the adult pension will receive a $24.70 boost to $826.70 per fortnight. Jobseeker payments for single individuals aged 22 or older with no children will increase by $56.10 to $749.20, while those with children will receive a $57.30 increase to $802.50. Single individuals aged 55 or over will also see their payments rise to $802.50 after nine months. The Australian Council of Social Services argues that the increases are insufficient and calls for income support to be aligned with the pension rate.
