A man named Tia Minhinnick has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for brutally beating his mother to death in a drunken and drug-fueled rage at their home in Melbourne. Minhinnick, who was 20 years old at the time, had a troubled relationship with his mother and was influenced by his belief that she mistreated his baby sister. His housemates witnessed the assault but were too afraid to intervene or call the police. The attack left the victim with multiple injuries, including rib fractures, burst eardrums, and a brain injury. Minhinnick will be eligible for parole after serving at least 15 years.
