A Lebanese literature student has built his own wind turbine using recycled materials including old water drums, steel beams and a cart wheel. Mohamad Sabsabi wanted to generate power without using fossil fuels and to avoid the high costs of renewable energy systems, so he taught himself engineering and relied on YouTube videos, books and scientific articles. Sabsabi plans to share the electricity generated with neighbours who do not have solar panels, which are widespread in the area as the government-supplied electricity is unreliable. He hopes his project will inspire a wind industry in north Lebanon.
