West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to go on her first foreign trip in five years, visiting Dubai and Spain. She will meet non-resident Bengalis and industry leaders in Dubai, hold business meetings and meet with NRIs in Madrid, and visit Barcelona with business and football club management officials. Cricketer Sourav Ganguly will also join her in Barcelona. The trip is seen as a strategy to bring in investment and boost the image of the ruling party as “pro-investment” ahead of the Lok Sabha polls next year. Banerjee will return to Kolkata on September 23.
