The solar-powered cookers that are being used in Kenya are said to be a much healthier way to cook than using firewood, which is blamed for half-a-million deaths. The solar stove can be easily and cheaply built by the women using cement on a metal mesh which is covered with a mosaic of shiny mirrors. Its inventor, environmentalist Keziah Ngugi, believes that the potential for cooking with the sun is immense, and that it is a huge step towards reducing pollution.
