A junta military airstrike on a popular gold prospecting area in Myanmar’s Kachin State killed one man and injured more than 30 other people, some critically, forces loyal to the country’s parallel National Unity Government told RFA. “There are 12 seriously injured people, four of them in critical condition and more than 20 with minor injuries,” he said, adding that the critically injured were taken to Myitkyina General Hospital for treatment. Some gold and jade mining companies in Kachin State pay taxes to the Kachin Independence Organization whose military wing has fought a fierce campaign against junta forces.
