ARLC chair Peter V’landys has responded to reports that Wayne Bennett has applied for the vacant New Zealand head coaching role. Bennett, who currently coaches the Dolphins, has expressed interest in the position and is waiting for a response from the NZRL. V’landys jokingly questioned why Bennett would want to coach against Australia, but acknowledged his coaching ability. The Kiwis role became available when Michael Maguire became the New South Wales Origin coach. Other applicants for the role include Nathan Cayless and Stacey Jones.
