A hazardous waste management company, Ssonix Products, and its owners are facing 84 charges following a series of explosions that occurred in St. Catharines, Ontario earlier this year. The explosions resulted in the death of a worker and the evacuation of nearby homes. Each of the three directors of the company is facing 21 charges under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act. If found guilty, the company could be fined up to $500,000 and the directors up to $50,000. The company has applied for environmental compliance approval to reopen, but the public can submit comments until September 29.
