Our 'quick read' news summary

The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor, Karim Khan, stated that there are grounds to believe that both Sudan’s armed forces and paramilitary rivals are committing atrocities in the Darfur region. The conflict in Darfur, which began 10 months ago, has led to reports of alleged crimes, including war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. The city of Al Geneina in West Darfur has been particularly affected, with thousands of people from non-Arab communities believed to have been killed by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied Arab militia. The ICC still has a mandate to investigate crimes in the region, as referred by the UN Security Council in 2005.
