Strong winds in Wellington have caused disruptions to flights, with some being cancelled, delayed, or diverted. Gusts at the airport have reached speeds of up to 100km/h. International flights from Sydney and Brisbane have been diverted to Auckland. MetService had earlier issued strong wind warnings for parts of the lower North Island and the upper South Island, but these have now been lifted. A heavy rain warning that was in place for certain areas has also been lifted. The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) predicts unsettled weather and cooler temperatures before a rise in temperatures next week.
