The United States has deported 135 Venezuelan migrants back to Caracas, Venezuela. This is the first group of deportations to Venezuela since 2019. The migrants, who were all single adults, had gone through immigration proceedings and were escorted onto a charter plane in shackles. The Biden administration announced the resumption of deportations to Venezuela in an effort to decrease the number of Venezuelans arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border. Venezuela is currently facing a migration crisis, with over 7 million people leaving the country due to political instability and human rights abuses.
