The number of Australians who vape increased by 30% last year, with over 400,000 more adults taking up the habit. New South Wales saw the largest increase, followed by Victoria and Western Australia. There are now over 1.7 million e-cigarette users in Australia, a 349% increase over the past five years. Concerns have been raised that the new laws will lead to a surge in the black market for nicotine vapes, as users are forced to pay $150 to access a legal vape from a chemist. Health Minister Mark Butler announced the ban after vaping became popular among children.
