In Africa, human rights organizations are rallying together to demand an end to the neglect and discrimination that LBTQI women continue to face. This includes neglect and discrimination in areas such as healthcare, including services related to Covid-19. The Pan Africa International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association’s (PAI) 2022 report on The Effect of Covid-19 on LBQ Women in the SADC region found levels of inequality that shocked advocates. LBQTI women face discrimination in most women’s rights movements in Africa, either not being recognized as women or being criminalized. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to highlight these injustices and celebrate the achievements of LBQTI women.
