Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay has broken the women’s 5,000m world record, finishing in 14 minutes and 00.21 seconds, almost five seconds faster than the previous record set by Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon. Tsegay’s time was also nearly 12 seconds better than her personal best. Kenyan Beatrice Chebet came in second with the third-fastest time ever recorded. Tsegay expressed her goal of trying to go under 14 minutes next year.
