Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the completion of the fourth and final filling of the Grand Renaissance Dam on the Nile. The dam has been a source of tension with downstream countries Egypt and Sudan. Abiy acknowledged the challenges faced during construction but expressed confidence in their ability to accomplish their plans. The $4.2-billion dam has been a focal point of regional disputes, with Egypt concerned about its share of Nile water. Negotiations are ongoing to achieve an agreement that considers the interests of all three countries. Egyptian irrigation minister Hani Sewilam called for an end to unilateral actions.
