Dr. Emma Espiner is a medical doctor who has dedicated her life to improving the health care experience for Māori people in New Zealand. In her memoir, “There’s a Cure for This,” she talks about her unconventional upbringing, ditching her recruitment job for med school, and how New Zealand can improve healthcare for Māori. Espiner will be appearing at the Auckland Writers Festival on 19 May and is committed to seeing Māori doctors soon be proportional to New Zealand’s population.
