Lebanon’s central bank governor, Riad Salameh, has been issued a second arrest warrant, this time by Germany, on charges of corruption, forgery, money laundering and embezzlement. The warrant comes a week after France issued a similar arrest warrant against Salameh, who is being investigated by six European countries over his alleged involvement in the embezzlement of $330m from the central bank in money transfers to an offshore company between 2002 and 2015. Despite calls for his resignation, the government has refrained from dismissing Salameh, who will remain in his post until the end of his term in July.
