David Sobey, the former president and CEO of Sobeys Inc., has passed away at the age of 92. Sobey played a pivotal role in transforming the regional grocery chain into a multi-billion dollar company with over 1,500 stores across Canada. He served as chairman and CEO of Sobeys from 1986 to 1995 and remained on the board until 2015. Sobey was also known for his philanthropy, particularly his support for St. Mary’s University in Halifax. He is survived by his wife, children, sister, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
