Former soldier Daniel Khalife, who is suspected of spying for the Iranian regime, allegedly escaped from HMP Wandsworth in London using bed sheets to help him hide under a delivery lorry, a court heard. Khalife, who was on remand for terrorism and Official Secrets Act offences, sparked a nationwide manhunt but was arrested on a canal towpath in Northolt, west London, on Saturday. He has been charged with escaping from lawful custody and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where he was remanded in custody and is set to appear at the Old Bailey on September 29.
