Despite the Tauranga City Council delaying plans to extend paid parking charges, contractors installed about 22 signs for paid parking on Tauranga’s city fringe at a cost of $4600. Commission chair Anne Tolley stated that there was a lot of community concern about the parking and that the commission was not convinced of the need for extending paid parking when there were still plenty of available parks. The council’s parking strategy manager acknowledged that the signs were installed before the extension was postponed and they are now being removed. The commission will review the parking strategy in March.
