A police constable in Nagpur, India, has been dismissed from service and ordered to pay for the repairs of a High Court judge’s official car after taking it for a joyride and crashing into an electric pole. The constable, who had been on guard duty at the official bungalow of Justice Valmiki Sa Menezes, had taken the car without permission on April 4 and returned it to the bungalow with severe damage. The police commissioner dismissed the constable after an inquiry and ordered the recovery of Rs 2.28 lakh ($3,107) from his retirement benefits towards the cost of repairs.
