Balanced News: Concern over quiet but dangerous e-motorbikes on bike trails

There is concern over the use of high-powered e-motorcycles on Otago’s bike trails as they pose a danger to other users. E-bikes with pedals and motors up to 300W are allowed on the tracks, but more powerful e-motorcycles are not permitted. These e-motorbikes can reach speeds of up to 100km/h and are virtually silent, surprising people on the trail and leading to collisions. The use of e-motorbikes on the trails causes damage, and it is believed that some riders are either ignorant of the rules or believe they do not apply to them.
