Chinese hackers backed by the government are targeting U.S. infrastructure, including water treatment plants and electrical grids, in an effort to cause harm to American citizens, according to FBI Director Christopher Wray. He will testify before Congress about the cybersecurity threat posed by China’s government. The hacking operation known as “Volt Typhoon” has alarmed U.S. officials due to its proximity to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. The Justice Department and FBI have received court authorization to remotely disable aspects of the hacking campaign. Chinese-manufactured drones are also seen as a significant risk to critical infrastructure and national security.
