Three Chinese nationals who fled to Thailand in November have arrived at Taipei’s airport seeking asylum. They fear arrest if they return to Beijing and are planning to seek assistance from the Taiwanese government to move to a third country. The three individuals obtained United Nations temporary refugee cards in Bangkok and arrived in Taiwan on a flight from Kuala Lumpur. They are now hoping to stay in Taiwan and eventually seek asylum in the United States or the Netherlands. The Taiwan Immigration Department has not yet commented on the situation.
