Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s lawyers are seeking legal challenges against his three-year sentence for graft, which prevents him from contesting national elections. Khan, a former international cricket star, was arrested on Saturday and taken to Attock Jail. His lawyers have been denied access to him so far, but petitions have been filed in Islamabad and Lahore High Courts to grant power of attorney for the jailed leader and for him to be held in an ‘A-class’ cell. Khan’s arrest and detention in May sparked violence, but subsequent crackdowns have diminished his street power.
