Elon Musk has announced that the first Neuralink brain chip has been successfully implanted in a human as part of the PRIME Study. The chip, named Telepathy, enables control of devices through thought and initial users will include those who have lost the use of their limbs. The chip aims to benefit people with obesity, autism, depression, schizophrenia, and quadriplegia. The US Food and Drug Administration approved Neuralink for human trials in September 2020, and the study will evaluate the safety of the implant, the surgical robot used, and the functionality of the brain chip.
